Ready For Winter 2025 – Car Maintenance Checklist
Winter is around the corner, and August is the time to prepare. Whether it’s your daily driver, your teenager’s first car, or your child’s vehicle heading off to college, a little preparation now will save headaches when the temperatures drop and roads get icy.
Fluids & Engine Care
- Make sure antifreeze and coolant are topped off and mixed correctly.
- Consider a winter-grade oil for easier cold starts.
- Use freeze-resistant windshield washer fluid.
- Keep the gas tank at least half full.
Tires & Brakes
- Consider winter tires for better grip on icy roads.
- Check tread depth and inspect tire pressure weekly once temperatures drop.
- Inspect pads, rotors, and brake fluid.
Visibility & Comfort
- Replace worn wiper blades.
- Test the heater and defroster.
- Repair windshield chips before freezing weather makes them spread.
Safety & Exterior Protection
- Carry jumper cables, a blanket, flashlight, water, snacks, first-aid supplies, a snow brush, and an ice scraper.
- Wash salt away regularly and add wax to protect against corrosion.
- Lubricate door seals and locks to prevent freezing.
Pro tip: Schedule your winter readiness inspection before the snow hits.
